William Douglas Mitchell, 80, of Lumberton NC was born on March 12, 1946, to Rev. Douglas and Fannie Mitchell. William left his earthly home at First Health Richmond Memorial on March 12, 2026. He is preceded in death by his wife Clara Joyce Mitchell, his parents, Rev. Douglas and Fannie Mitchell, one brother Leonard Mitchell and one grandson Brandon Murray.
William had over 50 years of driving commercial vehicles for varies companies driving all over the state of North Carolina. He had numerous top driver awards throughout his career. He had a passion for coaching baseball and then transitioned to running the concession stand for Lumberton Youth Baseball Association LYBA. He enjoyed going to church to worship the Lord and spending time with family and friends.
William leaves behind eight children; Genleen Murray of Orrum NC, Ilene Williamson of Pembroke NC, William L. Mitchell(Tammy) of Lumberton NC, Elaine Mitchell of Orrum NC, Neil Mitchell(Michelle) of Pembroke NC, Marcus Mitchell(Deanna) of Red Springs NC, April Lockley of Fairmont NC, Byron McBride of Lumberton NC and one Stepson Gerald(Tammy) Maynor of Lumberton NC and a Special Granddaughter Marquita Monte(James) of Missouri. William had 21 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
William also leaves behind three brothers; Charlie (Ilene) Mitchell of Virginia, Lenward (Iris) Mitchell of Rowland NC, Rev. Graylen (Pattie) Mitchell of Lumberton NC and three sisters; Ann (Freddie)Hilton of South Carolina, Pam (Henry)Brewer of Lumberton NC, and Dovie (Lindell)Freeman of Lumberton NC.
