Mr. Tommie Barnes age 68 of Red Springs, North Carolina was born on August 16, 1955, to late Mr. Henry Wilbur Barnes and late Mrs. Juanita Huggins Barnes in Scotland County. He departed this life into his heavenly home on Saturday, July 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by, three brothers, Willie Huggins, Henry Barnes, and Wilton Barnes, granddaughter, Alene Martinez.
He leaves to cherish his memories, Two daughters, Tommie Broussard (John) and April Morales (Paulino). Three brothers, Jamie, Randall, Erastus (Peggy). Five sisters, Ethel, Doris (Kevin), Lois, Carol (Gene) and Kathy (Steve). Four grandchildren, Alysia Martinez, Lidia Martinez, Elijah Broussard, Gracelynn Broussard. great grandchildren, Amelia, Alysin, Josiah, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Tommie was small, bold, loud but loving. Tommie was known to his girls (April and Tommie) not as my daddy but was known as Our Daddy he was Papa, grandpa, brother, bubba, unc, uncle, tommie and son. He was a man with many titles but the most important title to him was Daddy. Tommie devoted his life to his children and grandchildren.
Tommie loved his family, his cigarettes, watching wrestling, watching westerns, riding to Red Springs especially Piggly Wiggly numerous times a day even if he didn't buy anything (we always joked about that one) but mostly he had a love for Pepsi. When you visited, he always invited you to a cold Pepsi.
Tommie was always willing to lend a hand to everyone in need. He came to the rescue of many. His house was the go to house of the family. It was where everyone would gather for family events, holidays, Sunday dinners, talks, or just to feel loved.
Tommie was a rare but genuine jewel. Even the hospice staff stated that they had never had a patient like Mr. Tommie Barnes, he was such a fighter. He was very outspoken, a straightforward get to the point kind of guy. He sure didn't mind telling you exactly how he felt. And believe me his choice of words would leave you speechless. But at the same time, he had a nurturing hug, kiss, and other words that made you feel protected and safe. No matter what Tommie spoke of he would always speak of his girls and grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy.
Tommie came from a large Family of brothers and sisters whom he loved dearly. He would always call or visit to see how they were doing. He cared so much for his siblings. Tommie was devoted to his job. He was hardworking on the job and at days off even after retiring. He made sure his family never went lacking for anything. He went above and beyond. When he starting getting sick there were many things he had forgotten or people he no longer recognized. But he never forgot the words I Love You.
