Shirley Scott Oxendine, age 64 of 60 Pasture Dr., Maxton, NC was born in Lumberton, North Carolina to Frank and Myrna Scott on September 24, 1958. She departed this life Wednesday morning, March 15, 2023, at 5:15 a.m. at Scotland Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. . She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Myrna Scott and her brother, Reverend Jerry Scott.
If you knew Shirley, you would know she cared deeply about family and friends. She was a devoted mother, wife, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. If you would have visited Shirley on any given day, she was nurturing her family. Nurturing them through love, cooking, caregiving, and lending a hand whenever she was needed. Shirley protected and cared for her family. Her favorite thing to do was care for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Shirley also loved her town. She loved attending Lumbee Homecoming and watching the parade with her family.
Shirley had a heart of gold, one that we all strive to have. Shirley was easy to please, and never complained about anything. She had her family, and that was enough. There is no doubt that she will watch over us with a smile until we meet her again.
She leads to cherish her memory, her husband, Merlin Oxendine of the Home, her son, Clay Patrick Scott of Red Springs, North Carolina. Two sisters, Gloria Scott and Orleane Chavis of Red Springs, NC. Two brothers Tilden Scott and Aaron (Mannie) Scott of Maxton, NC. In marriage she gained four children, Terry Oxendine (Peggy) of Lumberton, Celeste Hunt (Brent), Regina Baxley (Jimmy) and Jason Oxendine (Tena) all of Maxton, North Carolina. 10 Grandchildren: Cayden Scott, Josh, Deion, Miranda, Phyllis, Tristan, Mahlea, Teea, Taylor, Zack, Cassie and Shane.
7 Great Grandchildren: Grayson, Ally, Ava, Cinco, Gianna, Lexton, Bremen and Frankie. And a host of special nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
