Sally Montana McPhaul was born on October 12, 1942 in Hoke County to Mrs. Mary McPhaul and the late Mr. Willie McPhaul, Sr. She was the oldest of seven children. At Peterson High School she played basketball, was a member of the Beta Club, and graduated in the Class of 1961. She had a scholarship to business school, but declined it.
For a time she could be heard on WYRU radio station as "Sally."
She retired from Converse after 30 years of employment. Retirement was filled with traveling, fishing, and entrepreneurship with the opening of Sally's Place. She was a lover of life, especially with her beloved husband, Charlie Collins.
Sally departed this life on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Sally was predeceased by her father, one brother, Willie McPhaul, Jr., one daughter, Tammy Moore, and one granddaughter, Brittany Tanner.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie Collins; four children, Brenda, Anthony, Sr. (Barbara), Clifford, Jr., and Marcus; her mother, Mary; her siblings, Charles, Cecil (Adrienne), Lacy (Katie), Algena, and Martell (Leslie); seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
