Mr. Roosevelt Locklear, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Scotland Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his children. He was born August 26, 1934, in Maxton, NC to Clarence and Callie Locklear.
Along with his parents, Roosevelt was preceded in death by his wife, Lorrine Locklear, his sons, Ricky Locklear and Teddy Locklear, and his siblings, James Clennie Locklear, Monroe Locklear, Madie L. Oxendine, and Clarence Locklear Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Sylvia Averette (Rudy) of Rowland, NC and Donna Cummings (Kennie) of Maxton, NC, and three sons, Michael Lamar Locklear (Nina) of Holden Beach, NC, Ashley Locklear of Pembroke, NC, and Derrick Locklear (Casondra) of Rowland, NC; a total of twenty grandchildren, forty-one great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and a host of loving friends and family.
Roosevelt was affectionately known as “The Gas Man” in the community where he faithfully delivered gas to families for over four decades. He was employed by Carolina’s Domestic Gas of Laurinburg, NC and Peoples Gas & Oil of Maxton, NC. His favorite pastime was playing golf with friends and family, spending countless hours with his grandson, sons, and son-in-law on the golf course. He continued to play even up until this year. His last six years of life, he enjoyed his independence surrounded by loving neighbors at Pembroke Senior Village in Pembroke, NC.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his nurses and caregivers of Caring Touch, New Harmony, and Amedisys.
