Robert Harrington Obituary

Robert Charles Harrington (RC), son of the late George and Clara McMillan Harrington, was born on May 9, 1937.  Our Heavenly Father called him home to his final resting place on September 13, 2020.
Robert received his education at Red Springs High School and graduated May 3, 1955. Three years later, Robert married the love of his life, Ethel Mae Harrington on April 20, 1958.
Robert moved to Baltimore, MD and began employment at Sparrows Point Bethlehem Steel as a sand blaster. There he worked hard and advanced to become a supervisor. After 30+ years, he retired and moved back to Red Springs.
Robert was a faithful member of the Panthersford Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon. He loved Sunday services, Bible study and singing in the choir.  Whether it was maintenance of the church building, grounds or cemetery, wherever there was a need, he was there. One of the members fondly said that he did everything at the church but preach. Perhaps this was fueled by one of his favorite sayings, “Every day above ground is a blessing.”
Robert was an upbeat type of person and was always the life of the party. He loved cracking jokes and keeping people laughing. He was a very encouraging person and definitely had an ear to listen. So often he put others first and would do what ever he could to help someone.
Robert loved fishing, collecting cars, watching westerns and soap operas on TV, as well as going to flea markets. One of the things that he looked forward to every year was the Buie-McMillan Family Reunion. He served on the steering committee for many, many years and was a part of the glue that kept the reunion going for more than 50 years. Above all, Robert loved his family.
Robert’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Ethel Mae Harrington his children: Sharon Marie Parker (Hyattsville, MD), Ethel Denise Harrington (Baltimore, MD), Clifton Bernard Harrington (Erica), Fayetteville, NC, Clara Diane Jones (Arthur), Baltimore, MD, and Perry Harrington  Red Springs, NC.
