Ricky Chatman

Ricky Chatman was born on July 27, 1958 in Robeson County, North Carolina to the late Henry Lindsey and the late Carrie Chatman. God sent his angels to carry our beloved Ricky to his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.

Ricky was preceded in death by one daughter, Ieshia McNeill Shaw, five brothers, Tommy Shaw, Frank Lindsey, James Howard Chatman, Alphonso Graham and Henry Lindsey, Jr., four sisters, Carolyn Powell, Jeanette Lindsay, Helen McKellar and Doris Shaw.

Prior to retirement due to medical issues, Ricky worked for JP Stevens, Wagram, NC, the Shannon Sawmill, and finally Smithfield Packing, Tar Heel, NC. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  Rick was a faithful and dedicated steward of Feed Your Faith Ministries. He rededicated his life to Christ on July 30, 2023.

Within the racing world, Ricky was known as Thousand Dollar Rick, He made it clear that he was not racing anyone for less than $1,000.00 and he meant it. Many of the young race car drivers and mechanics looked up to him as a father figure because of the manner in which he ran his racing team and kept everyone on the right track.   

Ricky leaves behind to cherish his precious memories: his loving wife of 30 years, Cynthia Chatman of the home, his sons, Ricky McNeill of Fayetteville, NC, Kendall Carthins of Savannah, GA, Coray McPhaul of Red Springs NC, and William McPhaul (Tish) of Red Springs NC, his daughters, Sabrina Brite of FL, Shaundrika Chapman of Lumberton, NC, and Lisa Jordan of Red Springs, NC. His sisters, Dorothy Sheridan of Red Springs, NC, and Carrie McKoy of Red Springs, NC, brothers, Sylvester Allen of New York, NY, Simeon Chatman (Merita) of Red Springs NC, Leverne Lindsey (Beth) Lumberton, NC, and Michael Chatman (Maria) of Bladenboro, NC. His mother-in-law, Annie Graham of Red Springs, NC, sisters-in-law, Jencie Chambers of Red Springs, NC, Mary Jordan of Red Springs, NC, and Sherri Richardson (Daryl) of McDonough, GA.  Ricky is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
