Phyllis Carol Chavis
February 14, 1965 – December 8, 2024
Phyllis Carol Chavis, of Maxton, North Carolina, passed away on December 8, 2024, at the age of 59. She was born on February 14, 1965, to Mr. Phillip Jones and Mrs. Linda Carol (Mae Wanda) Hallman.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Braxton Chavis Jr.; her parents, Mr. Phillip Jones and Mrs. Linda Carol Hallman; her stepfather, Mr. Derrell Hallman; her paternal grandparents, Gus Locklear and Stella Mae Jones; and her maternal grandparents, Lister and Florence Locklear.
She is survived by her three children: Tiffany Brook Chavis and husband Matthew Hardin of Red Springs, NC; Braxton Chavis III of Maxton, NC; and Jeffery Hayes and wife Christy Hayes of Charlotte, NC. She also leaves behind three sisters: Hollie Hallman of Maxton, NC; Pamela Harris of Maxton, NC; and Tabatha Locklear of Raleigh, NC; as well as four brothers: Phillip (PJ) Jones Jr., Gus (Bear) Jones, and Travis Jones, all of Georgia, and Kermit Ransom of Maxton, NC and a host of other relatives and friends.
Phyllis cherished her role as a grandmother to four grandchildren: Maci Hardin, Braxlei Chavis, Aria Hayes, and Mikayah Hayes. She was also a beloved aunt to Madison (Scooter) Hallman and Christian (Poppe) Locklear.
Phyllis was a loving and devoted mother, sister, grandmother (“Nanny”), and friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She had a passion for fashion and styling, an infectious smile, and a laugh that could brighten any room. Known for her kind and giving spirit, Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her family and caring for others in her community.
She will forever be remembered for the love and joy she brought to those around her.
