Melvin Marshall Lowery, 51, of Rockingham began his eternal life on December 27th, 2023. On September 18th 1972, Melvin Marshall Lowery was born to Donald Lowery and Emma Jane Lowery. Melvin was preceded in death by his twin brother, Kelvin Matthew Lowery. Melvin was the biological father of Austin Dewayne Lowery and Aliya Marie Lowery. He chose to be a father to Daniel Hoskins (Lowery) and Aubrey Jacobs (Lowery). He was the grandfather to Paisley Rayne Lowery and Pryston Kai Lowery. Melvin is survived by his parents; life companion, Melissa Jacobs; sisters, Donna Creech of Lumberton, NC and Brittany Locklear of Pembroke, NC; the mother of his children, Valentina Locklear; his children and grandchildren; two nieces, Angelique Lowery and Lonna Creech. He also leaves three best friends that he cherished as brothers, Coyounger Locklear, Julius Locklear and Harley Lee Locklear.
How do you describe someone with such a larger-than-life personality other than to give nuggets of the characteristics that made him that man that he was. Melvin was known among family and friends as being outspoken and finding humor in every circumstance he encountered. He rarely met a stranger and often used humor to meet people where they were, making fast friendships that lasted a lifetime.
His loyalty knew no boundaries as was demonstrated by the unofficial adoption of Daniel and Aubrey, drawing them in alongside of his two favorite people, Aliya and Austin. Who but Melvin could and would argue with his favorite granddaughter, Paisley but could turn around and love her as only a grandpa could and Pryston, only knowing his grandpa a short time, knew nothing but love from him.
Melvin was a dedicated employee with 31 years of service with L&L Construction. He advanced to Superintendent and was personable with staff, vendors and employees. Often working through pain and sickness when others were not aware of what he was going through. When he wasn’t at work, he used his free time to hunt and fish. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying atvs, hunting and fishing, trips to the beach and sharing music of all kinds with those that he knew could appreciate his taste.
This larger-than-life personality drew us all to extremes with loving him as he did with us. There are no words to describe the impact he made on all our lives and the void that will be felt until we are reunited for eternity. Until then we smile at our memories of living with Melvin Marshall Locklear.
