Louis McNeill Obituary

Louis McNeill, 76, entered into eternal rest after a life filled with love, dedication, and family. Born on June 7, 1949, to the late Grantham and Geneva McNeill, Louis grew up grounded in faith, humility, and strong family values that remained with him throughout his life.

At an early age, Louis joined Center Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served on the Usher Board. His service reflected his kind heart, gentle spirit, and willingness to help others—traits that he carried throughout his entire life.

Over 40 years ago, Louis married the love of his life, Della Shannon McNeill, and together they built a beautiful life centered around devotion, laughter, and togetherness. Their bond was one that inspired everyone around them. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Della; his parents, Grantham and Geneva; and two brothers, Dwight McNeill and Larry McNeill.

Louis worked for many years at J.P. Stevens, later retiring after the company transitioned to WestPoint. He took great pride in his work and built many lasting friendships during his time there.

Outside of work, Louis found joy in the simple things that meant the most—spending time with his wife and family, watching The Young and the Restless, and keeping up with the nightly news. His calm presence, gentle spirit, and steady love will be remembered by all who knew him.

Louis leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Kacy Smith; his grandson, Brandon Smith, of Atlanta, Georgia, 2 great grands, London Smith of Laurinburg, and Zamir Smith of Atlanta, Georgia,  his sister, Gennie Mae Williams of Newark, NJ; and his brothers, Grantham Lee (Leigh Ann) of Red Springs, Jimmy (Patricia) of Hallsboro, Charles, Clyde (Margie) of Red Springs, Clarence (Shawn), and Marvin (Barbara) of Raeford, NC.

He is also survived by four sisters-in-law; Janice McNeill of Red Springs, Betty McNeill of Raeford, and Catherine McBride and Annie Shannon, both of Laurinburg; and three brothers-in-law, Harrison Shannon (Sandra) of Durham, William Shannon (Julia) of Laurel Hill, and James Shannon (Ruby) of Aberdeen. He leaves behind one uncle, Charles Campbell of Washington, DC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Louis will also be fondly remembered by his best friend, Jesse Harris of Raeford, NC, whose loyal friendship spanned many years.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Morrison Manor Hospice of Scotland County for their compassionate care and support during Louis’s time of need. A special thank you is also extended to his niece, Tonia McPhatter, for her unwavering love, support, and dedication to her Uncle during his time of sickness.

Louis will be remembered for his unwavering love, his strength, and his warm, peaceful spirit. His legacy lives on in all those who loved him. May he sleep in the bosom of Christ.
