Leverne Scippio (age 88) was born March 5th, 1938 in the township of Red Springs, Robeson County, North Carolina to the late Mr. Leroy Scippio and Ophelia Mack-Scippio.
Leverne graduated from Red Springs High School March 25th 1956 where he took a loving for art. One of his first jobs was drawing comic strips for the local newspaper. He eventually moved to Queens, New York where he moved in with his sister Hazel until he was able to find an apartment of his own and started a new chapter in his life.
Part of this new life was the introduction of a son, Levern Darrell Scippio through his union with Minnie Lee Dillard.
Leverne made a career in the textile and apparel industry during 70s, 80s and 90s when fashion and home decor were turning in to a booming market. He managed the shipping and distribution of fabrics and apparel for Lerner shops nationwide until his retirement in the early 2000s.
Leverne moved back to Red Springs to spend his remaining years amongst his family and friends. Even though he enjoyed his peace and privacy, he was willing to open his home to those who company he was willing to entertain.
Leverne is the eldest of eleven children and seen as a the patriarch of the Scippio lineage.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leroy and Ophelia, his siblings, Hazel, Mickey, George, Charles, Roy Jr., and Bertha(Coleman) and nephew, Michael Willis Febrez. He is survived by his siblings, Glenn, Audrey, Ronald and Veronica, his son and grandchildren, Denia, Sebastian and Olivia, nieces, Tina, Angie, Latosha and Makiba, nephews Reginald, Steven, Roy (3rd), Michael, Arron, Artrelle, and Marquel.
