Joe Graham Obituary

Mr. Joe Nathan Graham, age 65, of Baltimore, Maryland known to family and friends as “Pookie “,a son of the late Mr. David Graham Sr. and Mrs. Annie G. McEachin Graham was born September 14, 1958. He departed this life to eternal rest on February 28, 2024, at UNC Health Southeastern Hospital, Lumberton, North Carolina.

At an early age, Joe Nathan attended Island Grove Missionary Baptist Church in the Floral College Community of Maxton, North Carolina. Later, he attended Pilgrim Grove Holiness Church in Red Springs, North Carolina (Now Pilgrim One Accord Holiness Church).

Joe attended the Public Schools of Robeson County in Red Springs, North Carolina; joined the Job Corps, and from there, enlisted in the U.S. Army.  He was honorably discharged. He retired from Domino’s Sugar Refinery in Baltimore, Maryland. He then became a guard for Maxima Security Company, which he enjoyed.

 Joe was a sports fan who loved football. His favorite team is the Baltimore Ravens. He also enjoyed a good game of spades. He also loved his family. Joe Nathan proved he was a man of his Word. He kept saying he was coming “home”, he did just what he said. He wanted to see his sister. It was his desire to be laid to rest in NC. He stood on his word.

Joe was joined in “Holy Matrimony” to Rita Lee Graham, on June 3, 2004, in Baltimore.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. David Graham, Sr., and Mrs. Annie Graham; six siblings: Alton, Mitchell, David Jr., Larry, John Wesley, and Charles; Mr. Willie Lilly; brother-in-law: Brian Lilly: and a special cousin: David Leslie McEachin. Mother-in-law: Dorothy Lee; Sisters-in-law, Audrey Devaughn, and Shelia Lee.

Joe leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving and devoted wife, Rita Lee Graham of the home; two sons: DeJuan Graham, Jonathan (Crystal) Graham, Evansville, Indiana and two bonus sons: Demetrius Lee, Norfolk, Virginia; Lorenzo Lee, Kentucky; four grandchildren: Ja’Nya Graham, Jonathan Graham, Jr., Kristian Lee and Doris Macadat (Wave Stream); one Great-grand: Brock Macadat; His only sister: Annie Lois Graham, which he affectionately calls “Baby Sister” and husband Larry “Bass” McKoy of Red Springs, North Carolina; one brother: Bruce Graham of Laurinburg, North Carolina; A Special niece and great niece: Amy Graham and her daughter: Ayanna Ellison of Red Springs, North Carolina. Sisters-in-law: Mary Morrison of Raeford, North Carolina; Charlotte Lilly Graham of Parkton, The late Sheila (Clem) Williams, Norfolk, Virginia; Juanita Moore, Chesapeake, Virginia, Adrienne (Anthony) Ashley, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Francine (Alfonso) Parks, Dallas, Texas. Brothers-in-law: Wyneil (Rachael) Lee, Henry (Melissa) Lee, Baltimore, Maryland.  four cousins/friends just like a sister and brothers: TFoster Shaw of Raeford, North Carolina, Gary “Pee Wee” McLean, of Red Springs, North Carolina, Tony Cobb of Raeford, North Carolina and the late Wanda Crowder-Rutledge of Baltimore, Maryland;  God-children, Makayla and Taylor Cook, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of other relatives and friends.
