Fred’s life story began on a wintery day in 1988 on January 18th when God placed him in the arms of James Freddie, Sr., and Pamela McNair Brown. God sent him our way; a bright soul wrapped in laughter and song. He was a spirit of joy that carried along. He filled our days with whistle and tunes, trips to the store morning ‘til noon. But nothing set Fred “quite as right” than driving his golf cart day and night. A son, a father, a brother, a nephew, a cousin, a friend with a heart so true. Always giving, always you.
On September 12, 2025, God saw that you had given your all. He whispered your name, and you answered His call. No pain, no more strife; you stepped into heaven’s eternal life. Fred is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mary Terry McNair (George), and Artis Jordan McNair, his paternal grandparents, Hardin Brown, Sr., and Annie Pearl Ross Brown.
From the day that Fred was born, his Aunt Annie Brown/Ease played a special part in raising him. His aunts spoiled him unconditionally. Fred was introduced to Christian life as a very young child by his parents, grandparents, and Aunt Bert Hutchinson. Fred understood the need to have a church home and sought fellowship at JCMBC with his sisters and were baptized together at Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Fred attended Sunday School faithfully where he learned lessons of life. His love of music began in the church. He was one of the lead singers on the Jones Chapel Inspirational Youth Choir. Fred was also a member of the Robeson County B. B. Thompson Young Peoples Choir. Fred was named Prince of Jones Chapel at 7 years old. He was a member of The Royal Ambassadors and served as a member of the youth usher board. Fred was a Renaissance man (a person who could play the piano, drums, and true definition of a handy man and caregiver in the home and in the community).
Fred loved mechanical work, a skill that he inherited from his late grandfather, Hardin and anything else where he could tinker with his hands. He was employed with Purnell’s Garage in Maxton, NC and Grease Monkey in Sumpter, SC. Later he joined his father and brothers in the family business of Brown and Sons.
Fred was educated in the Red Springs Schools and graduated from United Pentecostal Church School. Fred was an outstanding football and baseball player. He loved his team members and was a strong competitor.
Fred was united in holy matrimony to Amanda Chavis in 2009. Fred loved his family, especially hanging out with his brothers, Jordan and Juiluan, playing cards and games, working and just laughing. Fred loved to cook with his dad and loved riding and talking with his mom. Fred enjoyed being the one his baby sisters, Setta and Risia could call on. He showed deep love for his Irish twin, Setta, both enjoying working on vehicles to joking around. They had a bond that you could not break. Fred loved all his children and everyone who came into contact with him.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving parents: James Freddie Brown, Sr., and Pamela McNair Brown of the home, three adorable daughters: Mi’Asia Brown, Jasmine Chavis and Aiyanna McQueen, three lovable sons: Devin Chavis, Demetrious Brown, and Dason Brown, two dearly beloved sisters: Consetta McNair of the home and Marisia Brown, two devoted brothers: Jordon Brown (Tia), and Juiluan Brown (Amber), five nieces, Kaliyah West of the home, Ereanna and Kenn of the home, Abria and Wynter, five nephews, Kamdyen West of the home, Mason, Keilyn, Kobe, and Karter, seven uncles: Retired Master Sergeant Manse Ross, Red Springs, NC, Gary McLean, Red Springs, NC, Larry Brown (Lagirtha), Red Springs, NC, Hardin Brown, Jr., (Kim), Fayetteville, NC, Calvin Townsend (Lisa), Red Spring, NC, Chris Terry, Red Springs, NC, Jerry Terry (Sandra) San Antonio, TX, eight aunts: Frances Henderson (Edward), Red Springs, NC, Bert Hutchinson (Virgil) Maxton, NC, and Annie Brown, Red Springs, NC, Erica Terry, Red Springs, NC, Michelle Blue, Red Springs, NC, Kimberly Mack (Robert), Lumberton, NC, Tracey Graham, Goldsboro NC, Cynthia Ross, Red Springs, NC and Bobbie Ross, Red Springs, NC. One special cousin, Jarred Brown, Red Springs, NC. One special brother, Jent McLean, Maxton, NC. One special uncle, Howard Ray and a host of relatives and friends.
