George “Jimmy” Gilchrist was born in Robeson County, North Carolina on March 6, 1940 to the late Mr. Tom and Mrs. Helen McDonald Gilchrist.
Jimmy moved to New York after completing school in North Carolina. He worked with Parker Jewish Institute Nursing Homes for over 20 years until he decided to retire.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Cuthbertson Gilchrist, one son, Dennis Gilchrist, one sister, Mable Gilchrist Kelly, three brothers, Claudia McDonald, Eugene McDonald and David Gilchrist.
He leaves to cherish his love and memories: two sons, George Gilchrist, of Queens, New York; and George Galbreath, of Greensboro, North Carolina; two granddaughters, Kayla Gilchrist, of Delaware; and Brianna Gilchrist, of Greensboro, North Carolina; two grandsons, Jayden A. Gilchrist, of Lexington, North Carolina and George Galbreath, of Greensboro, North Carolina; one sister, Shirley Gilchrist Cobb, of Red Springs, North Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Cuthbertson and Mary M. Price, both of North Carolina; and Eva Morning Landham, of Maryland; two daughters-in-love, Shautell Cobb, of Maryland; and Pamela Bellamy, of Aiken, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Interment, Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Cedar Grove A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery, 2430 Hildebrand Road, Salisbury, North Carolina.
