Carlie Chavis Obituary

Carlie Chavis, 95, of Shannon, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 19, 2026.He was born on May 21, 1930, in Robeson Co. NC, to the late Henry and Maggie Jackson Chavis. Carlie was a loving father, devoted husband, proud brother, and cherished grandfather - truly the pillar of strength in his family. A man of few words but immense action, he lived a life built on foundational values of love, duty, humility, and simplicity. He was deeply family-oriented and always put the needs of his loved ones before his own. Known as a gentle soul with quiet integrity, Carlie found joy in the labor of his hands and the happiness of his family. He loved working outside, caring for his land and garden, and listening to music on his reel-to-reel recorder. Above all, he cherished his wife Josephine dearly and modeled what it meant to be a husband in the truest sense - deeply bonded to his home, his land, and the woman he loved.

Carlie expressed his love through service: providing, protecting, and showing up every day with reliability and devotion. He was a grounded provider with dirt on his hands and love in his heart, a devoted patriarch who built a legacy of security, steadiness, and quiet strength.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Maggie Jackson Chavis; his stepmother, Janie Collins. His brothers, Rev. Leerome "Bud" Chavis, Henry Jr. Chavis, Albert Chavis, Ernest Chavis, and Ronald Lee Chavis; and his sisters, Mary Callahan and Annie Emanuel and his grandchildren Kimberly Ann Chavis and Ricky Chavis, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72yrs Josephine Chavis and their 7 children:

•Earl Chavis of St Pauls

•Brenda (Micheal) Amegnaglo of Charlotte

•Judy (Paul) Woodard of Baltimore
