In Loving Memory of Renee Hammonds
June 11, 1975 – May 26, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Renee Hammonds, age 50, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
Born on June 11, 1975, in Robeson County, Renee was the beloved daughter of Nadine Hammonds and James Henry Hammonds. She was a woman of remarkable strength, unforgettable humor, and a laugh that could brighten even the darkest moments. Renee will always be remembered for her beautiful poetry, her resilience, and the joy she brought to those blessed to know her.
Renee was a loving mother to her three children: deceased Roneil Dana James, Nadine Marie Hammonds and Messiah Sanchez. She was also a proud and cherished grandmother to her two beloved grandsons, Carter Owens and Chosen Owens, who brought immense happiness to her life.
She leaves behind her loving brother, Danny Hammonds, and sister-in-law, Anna Hammonds, along with her treasured nieces, Andria Hammonds and Aayana Hammonds.
Renee also shared special bonds with her close aunt, Amanda Locklear; her close uncle, Harlon Jones; and her close cousin, Weldon Jones, lovingly known as “Smokey.” She was blessed with a dear friendship that meant so much to her with her best friend, Kim Dunn who is also the God Mother of her children. Renee also shared love and companionship with James “Chester” Henderson, whose presence brought comfort and happiness to her life.
Renee’s love, wisdom, and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Her words, her laughter, and her strength will continue to inspire her family and friends for generations to come.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her memory will live on through every poem remembered, every laugh shared, and every life she touched with her love and light.
“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near”
