Obituary

Philip Locklear, age 55 of Pembroke, NC began his life on earth August 8, 1968 and began his eternal life on August 27, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents: Roscoe and Elma Lee Locklear, his oldest sister, Joann Locklear and his grandson, Uziah Locklear.

Philip was an amazingly multifaceted individual. Every layer and level of life that he encountered brought out a different talent, interest, adventure, and emotion. His relationship with every family member was as complex as he was and in as much as the dynamics of these relationships changed over the years, there was never any doubt of the love. He loved as much as he was loved. This was evident in his generosity with his time, money, gifts and talents. He loved to travel and a good adventure. He would come home and regale us with stories of people he encountered and even a few misadventures, always seeming to narrowly escape some type of harrowing event. Nature was his friend as he was often around water, digging in dirt or just admiring God's creation.   Phil loved music. He would send out unsolicited videos of him singing and occasionally it was a witty song he was thinking up as he went along. A voracious reader, purveyor of coin collections and man of varied interests and hobbies. Like his father, Phil never differentiated among genders as he could complete domestic duties as well as he could construction.

Philip leaves behind a testimony of struggle, overcoming and resiliency. He had faith in God and knew God's never-ending love. He saw the good in people and gave the benefit of the doubt when it appeared that there was no good to be found. He knew the struggles that many had like his and knew that there was redemption to be had for everyone.  A characteristic that God would have us all to do when dealing with people that we would have "to do better".  Today, we mourn his passing but also to celebrate the good that he brought to our lives.

Philip leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Amanda; 4 children: Sabrina Locklear (mother of 6 of his grandkids), Brittany Locklear (mother of 3 of his grandkids), Cierra Locklear (mother of 2 of his grandkids) and Houston Locklear (father of 2 grandkids with another baby on the way). He has two sisters, Fredia (Tim) Lanham, Maxine Locklear and his brother, Scott (April) Locklear. Phil had 2 special nieces, Netasha (Heath) Worriax and Kristina (William) Locklear-Cummings that he treated as his sisters. He had a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
