Mr. Melvin Ray Chavis age 62 was born on October 28, 1958, to the late Rev. Roosevelt Chavis and the late Mrs. Wilma Chavis in Robeson County. He departed this life on Sunday, April 18, 2021. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by Andrew Chavis, Curtis Chavis, and a granddaughter Marissa Jernigan.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Gwynn Bullard Chavis of Charlotte, North Carolina; two sons, Rev. Michael Watts (Anita) of Pembroke, North Carolina; Joshua Jernigan (Laura) of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters: Kesha Renee Chavis (Chad Mitchell) of Red Springs, North Carolina; Amilia Michelle Chavis of Maxton, North Carolina; Mila Chavis of Laurinburg, North Carolina; four brothers: Terry L. Chavis of Maxton, North Carolina; Jerry Chavis of Laurinburg, North Carolina; Roosevelt (Judge) Chavis Jr of Red Springs, North Carolina; Bobby Dial of Maxton, North Carolina; five sisters: Mona Chavis of Maxton, North Carolina; Teresa Bowens of South Carolina; Linda Chavis of Maxton, North Carolina; Cynthia Chavis of Laurel Hill, North Carolina; and Lisa Dial of Maxton, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. A host of other relatives and friends.
