Obituary

Mother Mazie McQueen Shaw was born on October 25,1924 in McCall, South Carolina to the late Jess and Pearl Jones. Mother Mazie McQueen Shaw, 98, was a faithful servant of the Lord and received her crown of glory on Monday, December 26, 2022 at Southeastern Hospice House of Lumberton, North Carolina.

She was educated in Hoke County School System. She later met and married the love of her life, James Edward Shaw, Sr., who preceded her in death. God added to their union three children, who were the joy of her life. She taught them godly principles, a work ethic, and value of family.  Mother Shaw enjoyed cooking, especially peas and butter beans, tasty cornbread and her beloved biscuits. She was lovingly called Ma, Mom, Momma, Grandma, Grandma Maze, My Aunt Mazie, and May

Mother Shaw received Christ at an early age and joined McCormick Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.  She applied her hands to support her church and to be a blessing. In particular, she ministered to the spiritual wellbeing of the women according to Titus 2:3-5, which instructs, " The aged women likewise,… that they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed." She had a special gift of Praying.  Her prayers could move your spirit to heavenly heights and her singing was a joy to behold.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Edward Shaw Sr., two sons; Alexander Shaw and James Edward Shaw Jr., five brothers: Willie McQueen, Charlie Jones, James H. Jones; Jimmy Lee Jones, and Johnny Jones five sisters Roxanne McNeill, Mary Lou Jones, Pearlie McLean, Ethel Lee Adams, Dorothy Mae McQueen, and Caroline Whitted.

Cherished memories are left in the hearts and minds of her family: one daughter Mazie S. Gibson of Lumberton North Carolina, two grandsons, Michael L. Gibson (Rannie),  and Broderick Gibson, one great granddaughter, Tasiana Gibson Williams (Armetria) one great grandson Kashton Jeremiah Locklear, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
