Retired Staff Sergeant Leon Oxendine was born on June 23, 1956, and was called to his Heavenly home on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Atrium Care Hospital, Pineville, North Carolina. He is preceded in death by his father, Orba Oxendine, a sister, Patricia Ann Oxendine, his maternal grandparents, William Otis and Annie Bell Burnette, paternal grandparents, Charles and Priscilla Oxendine, and a special nephew, Jamie Earl Oxendine.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother and stepfather, Shirley and Steve Sharaf of Charlotte, North Carolina, his son, Stevie James and wife Kerri Oxendine of Indian Trail, North Carolina, a daughter, Leann Oxendine of the home, three brothers, Ronnie Oxendine of Shannon, North Carolina, Carl Dean Oxendine of Lumberton, North Carolina, and Randy Oxendine and wife Lisa of Shannon, North Carolina, three sisters,  Wanda Bullard and husband Jimmy of Shannon, North Carolina, Barbara Scott and husband Stanley of Maxton, North Carolina, and Norma Rogers and husband Roy of Charlotte, North Carolina. Three Grandchildren, Taylor Oxendine, of Charlotte, North Carolina; Hunter Oxendine, of Ocean Isle, North Carolina, and Cryton Oxendine, of Indian Trail, North Carolina. Leon also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.

Leon was a dedicated family man who loved his family. His favorite pass time was Sunday dinner at his mama's and bragging about the food his mama had prepared on Facebook.
