Obituary

Kathleen “Ms. Kat” Missouri, age 83, peacefully adorned her heavenly wings on June 17, 2026, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina following a brief illness. She was born on March 28, 1943, in Red Springs to the late Stella and Henry McNeill.

Kathleen was educated in the Red Springs school system and was a proud graduate of Peterson High School. In the early 1960s, she moved to Baltimore, where she began building a life filled with strength, determination, and purpose.


While in Baltimore, Kathleen married the late Robert Missouri, and from their union they were blessed with one daughter, Laquinta “Penny” Missouri. Kathleen worked faithfully for many years with General Motors before later dedicating herself to private nursing care. She was known for her strong spirit, no-nonsense approach, and unwavering love for those she held dear. Though her ways were firm, her heart was full, and her love was deeply felt by all who knew her.


Kathleen leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life: her loving daughter, Laquinta “Penny” Matthews (Samuel) of Gibsonville; her brothers, Ted McNeill (Liz) and Waymond McNeill (Barbara); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing that Kathleen’s legacy of strength, resilience, and love will continue through the lives she touched. To all who read this, may you be encouraged by the words of Psalm 34:18: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Hold tightly to the memories, lean on one another, and trust that love never truly leaves us—it lives on forever in our hearts.
