Gerald Wayne "Hair Bear" Chavis age 68 of St. Pauls, North Carolina was born on December 17, 1954, to the late Ernest Chavis and the late Bessie Locklear Chavis in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on December 9, 2023, at UNC Health Southeastern, Lumberton, North Carolina. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Chavis, a sister RoseMary Schneberger, nephew Anthony Chavis, and a brother-in-law Jerry Locklear.

Gerald leaves to cherish his memories his son: Phillip Locklear, grandson: Christian Locklear and Great granddaughter: Sophie Locklear, two sisters: Wanda Locklear and Regina Hawks and her husband Leslie, brother in law: Gregory Schneberger, nephews: Jeffrey, Jeremy, Phillip, Marcus, niece: Amy, great nieces and nephews: Aallajah, Chad, Shyan, Aidan, Kayla, Star, Faith and Justina, two special ladies: Linda Locklear and Doris Hardin, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
