Mr. Charles E. Smith age 94 of Maxton, North Carolina was born on November 1, 1931 to the late Martha Lee Barton Smith and the late Jessie Smith in Harnett County, North Carolina.  He passed away on May 7, 2026 at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna B. Smith, brother, Henry F. Smith, sister, Eula P. Kelly, and daughter, Vivian Mullin Oxendine.

Mr. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army, he served with exemplary service and  was awarded  several commendations  and medals to include:  1.Army Commendation Medal, 2. Air Medal, National, 3.Defense Service Medal, 4. Vietnam Service Medal, 5. Vietnam Campaign Medal W/ 60 Device, 6. Vietnam Cross of Gallantry 'M/Palm, 7.  Good Conduct Medal 5 Awards, 8. American Campaign Medal, and  9.  the  Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

He leaves to cherish his memory: three sons, Leon Smith (Jennifer), Jesse M. Smith, and Van Jones (Patsy); two daughters, Carla Kay Locklear (Clifford), and Fredia S. Bullard (Ronald); two brothers, John Rockefeller Smith (Juanita), and Darius Jacobs (Nancy); one sister, Betsy Ross Maynor, sixteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, seventeen great-great grandchildren, special caregiver, Mary Ann Morgan, and a host of other relatives and friends.
