Obituary

Mr. Charles Henry Ferguson, the son of the late Mr. John Ferguson and the late Mrs. Carrie Williams Ferguson was born on May 20, 1942 in Robeson County, North Carolina. After a courageous battle with chronic illness, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, our Heavenly Father proclaimed that Charles' heavenly home was ready. He had fought a good fight, so God's angels were sent to guide him home to glory. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Rev. Sylvester Chambers, David Ferguson, John Ferguson, Jr., James Walter Ferguson, Walter Brown and Hardin Brown, Sr., sisters, Beatrice Purnell, Carrie Leggett, and Eva Mae Lee, his dear friends, Willie (Fuzzy) and Mazie McArthur.

Charles confessed his belief and devotion to Christ, and joined St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, where he formed long-lasting relationships.

Charles was employed with Red Springs Fuel Oil Company for many years until his retirement. He was a gifted carpenter and painter. He found great joy in being outside using his hands and skills in building picnic tables, dog houses and other items that his neighbors and others had ordered. One of his greatest joys, was his love of fishing and the simple pleasure of being on a pier or boat with his lure in the water waiting for the fish to bite.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Alease (Earlee) Murray, of the home, his son, Charles A. Ferguson, Jr., of Red Springs, North Carolina and daughter, Deshonda Ferguson, of Raleigh, North Carolina, six grandchildren, Rashon Ferguson, (Ray Ray), Dontray Williams (Jamie Gee), and Tyla'Re Ellerbe, all of Red Springs, North Carolina; Faye Garrett, and Dennis Garrett,  Jr., both of Durham, North Carolina, and Adrian Cole Locklear, of Shannon, North Carolina. Two sisters, Maggie Frierson (Willie) and Hazel Ferguson, of Atlanta Georgia, one brother, Benoris Ferguson, of South Carolina, one sister-in-law, Geraldine Chambers, of Baltimore, Maryland, extended family members, the children and grandchildren of Fuzzy and Masie McArthur, special nieces, Jaleah Ellerbe, Michelle Leggett, and Renee Leggett, and special nephew, Terry Leggett, all of Red Springs, North Carolina, nieces, nephews,  cousins, fishing buddies, former coworkers and friends. His family, neighbors, and community of Red Springs will miss his presence tremendously.
