Clyde Chavis, age 88 of Maxton, North Carolina was born on February 28, 1930 to the late Lawrence Chavis and the late Lula Jane McGirt Chavis in Robeson County, North Carolina. He departed this life on February 25, 2019 at Morrison Manor, Laurinburg, North Carolina. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Judy Chavis, two grandsons, Maurice Locklear and Anthony Bryant; his siblings Harlene Locklear, Marie Locklear, Novella Robinson, Roosevelt "Dick" Chavis, Mazina Locklear, Bill Chavis, Betty Lou Rogers, and Venus Ann Locklear.
Mr. Clyde served his country in the United States Army, he was a member of the Lumbee Warriors Association, the Masons and the Maxton Fire and Rescue Departments.
He leaves to cherish his memories, one son,Jamie Chavis of Laurinburg, North Carolina; four daughters:Pauline Godwin Carlson of Wilson, North Carolina, Dixie Jones of Raleigh, North Carolina, Patricia Sesler of Nashville, North Carolina and Magdalene Bryant of Pembroke, North Carolina; four brothers, Robert Locklear of Raleigh, North Carolina, Bobby Dean Locklear of Pembroke, North Carolina, James McGirt of Red Springs, North Carolina and Donald Locklear of Laurinburg, North Carolina, four sisters: Mary Loucinda Townsend of Laurinburg, North Carolina, Betty Jane Locklear of Red Springs, North Carolina, Mable McGirt of Delaware, Carolyn Locklear, of Mississippi, twelve grandchildren: Patrick Locklear, Ioannis Theodorou, Scott Godwin ,Chris Chavis, Justin Chavis, Jamie Lynn Smithfield, Amanda Chavis, Miranda Chavis, Nadine Cummings, Cindy Cummings, Quanita Cummings, and James Earl Cummings; sixty-six great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
